About this deal

CineMart is an event where film professionals can network and find "money for projects to be realized either through co-production or any other means" for films that are at various stages of development. I used it in PSHE (to discuss bullying) and as a stimulus for writing which really engaged the children. Krindlekrax was one of the books featured and appeared alongside such classics as Roald Dahl's Matilda and J.

Although he is very thin with frizzy and think glasses, nine-year-old Ruskin believes he is born to be a hero and sets out to prove it by delivering his beloved Lizard Street from the menace of Krindlekrax.

Unfortunately for Ruskin, he did not perform to his best and so Elvis got awarded the part of hero for the school play. This witty, off-the-wall story is a classic rip-roaring adventure, from award-winning author Philip Ridley. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

It is based on an adventure story Krindlekrax by Philip Ridley, which tells the tale of Ruskin Spear's quest to become a hero. I imagine they must have done a whole book topic on it, otherwise I cannot understand why it captured their imagination in such a big way. Found it particularly useful with year 3 as they could somewhat relate experiences in the book with their own experiences, and were then able to feel more empathetic towards the characters, particularly Ruskin. My Mum recommended this book to me as she use to read it to her primary class and to my siblings and I at home. I was really glad that it ended the way it did, with Ruskin being a great role model for children who may find themselves in similar situations (friendship-wise, not battling a sewer beast! The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged. After catching a terrible cold, Elvis can't do the play any more, so Ruskin takes his place and it all goes well, but Elvis isn't pleased and smashes all the windows in Lizard Street that he can in a tantrum. I do think it's one of those where a good title and a healthy dose of hype has helped it into classrooms; there's a strong repetition of Lizard Street sounds and catch phrases which enhances its catchiness.

Ruskin is so upset with Corky's death that he can't get out of bed, but many people bring him gifts and tell him the story of how Corky got a gold medal (that he later gave to Ruskin as a present) for saving Lizard Street. This book shows a variety of fun, quirky and often distasteful characters, all of which have some form of personality trait which can be related to by every reader. This book is also good for drama activities such as freeze framing and conscience alley as it allows for children to place themselves in the character's shoes, and understand their thoughts and feelings as if they were there in that scene.citation needed] Amongst the plays were Kridlekrax, the script of which has been republished by Samuel French in an "acting edition", after many years of being out of print.
