About this deal

Self-esteem is not a fabric that can be stretched like confidence. You can’t count to three and step outside your zone like you can with confidence. So what determines self-esteem? Some people interestingly think standing in a toilet cubicle with your hands over your head as power pose before a big event is going to increase your confidence tenfold, but I think that attitude does a huge disservice to the small battles won each day on the way to becoming the confident person who wins the job interview.” Now though you get, ‘who is going downstairs to meet the delivery guy then?’ I mean come on, all you have to do is walk to your front door and even that’s too much of an effort for some people. After all, we cannot wish for a life without problems. So we are better off discovering silver linings that lie hidden within our problems.

I feel he is very underqualified/experienced to write this book and feel that it has been solely done for financial gain while his profile is high. Every reference book he cites would be far better to read than this book (I haven't read them all but I have read a good proportion).Ignore Bod Pod, underwater submersion, body scanners and calipers (aka having your fat pinched). What’s wrong with taking a simple photograph? It’s how we feel about ourselves, simply. But I want to broaden the scope of this topic here to more than just how we look with our tops off. Ultimately, feeling worse about ourselves is profitable. Think about it: from anti-wrinkle cream to falling behind on fashion trends or not being in good enough shape to fit in with a perceived norm. If we have poor self-esteem, we’ll make very good consumers. Should I workout on an empty stomach to lose weight? Fitness fads exposed Healthista Content you may like: BUT tell me honestly what kind of a life is that? If your spending all living hours in the office, quite frankly life simply isn’t worth living. You could be a very successful business man but if you don’t leave the office then what are you going to of with all the money? But in the fat loss world it just means getting bigger sized clothes or wearing darker colours, and often we only realise the repercussions when we have an obesity related health scare.

Sometimes I think we just need a little reminder of things aren’t as we always perceive them and this book was good at that. Confidence isn’t just about what you say, it’s about how you say it, your body language, your course of action and how you present or market yourself in every moment. You can’t buy self-belief or top it up overnight. It comes from your identity and how you perceive yourself.People often say to me ‘James I am a busy corporate and I can only train once or twice a week’– they are always surprised when I say that it isn’t an issue. I agree with him on most basic fitness related issues such as obesity and how individuals should take ownership of their health and their life. The 31-year-old online PT is well-known for his ‘outing’ of false influencers, fad diets and unhelpful headlines that feature in well-known tabloids, while using some pretty colourful language to ridicule their absurd fitness notions (in fact we’re slightly worried James may out us if he delves too deep into the Healthista archives…)

James Smith is the world’s fastest-growing online PT. Honest, unapologetic and outspoken, yet erudite, authentic and endlessly passionate about exposing the toxic myths within diet culture, and committed to helping people to reach their goals and make positive change for good. Not a Diet Book is his first book.

It’s easy to say “oh but it’s easy for him..” “he doesn’t have the responsibilities I have”. That may be true but if you want something to change bad enough, you’ll make it happen. There are ways around everything.

Mistakes are imperative and to be seen as adjustments necessary for the right direction. Instead of focusing on what has already happened, we must pull all our mental energy towards what is ahead, readying ourselves for the upcoming hurdle and the next failure. How we react to adversity speaks a lot louder than the adversity does itself. Confidence is a state of being clear headed either that a hypothesis or prediction is correct or that a chosen course of action is the best or most effective. Confidence comes from a Latin word 'fidere’ which means ‘to trust’; therefore, having self-confidence is having trust in one’s self. What you do is often a big factor in self-esteem, and this is hugely influenced by culture, but there’s often a stigma with certain professions (such as teaching, although hugely important for the development of future generations), while some may consider a doctor or banker to be at a more important professional level. What you achieve is also a big player in self-esteem; for some people, being the most qualified in the room is of the utmost importance in improving their self-esteem and therefore perceived self-worth.Quite possibly one of the worst “things” (book would be too generous) that I have ever read. I could not even finish it. What about Ubers? Even on a night out with my friends who are all pretty active like me, because we’ve got our jeans on and can’t be bothered to walk 300 metres down the road, we end up calling an Uber. Another option that wasn’t always there.
